Data Backup

Importance of regular backups
Computer software and hardware crashes can happen at any time.  We routinely have customers bring us broken computers with data that can't be recovered.  how much is your data worth to you?  How many hours or thousands of hours of documents would be lost if your hard drive died?  How about photos or videos?

Have a strategy
One backup strategy is to save everything you create in the "My Documents" folder.  Then when you perform your weekly backups you only have to back up one folder--the my documents folder.

What to backup
We recommend making a list of things you wouldn't want to lose in case of disaster.  Common things that need to be backed up are the following"

  • Office Documents (Word, Excel, PPT, Access)
  • Quicken
  • Quickbooks
  • Favorites
  • Email
  • Address Book

Where to backup to
There are many different ways to backup your data.  Here is a short list of different options
1.  Floppies--can hold 1.44 MB of information
2.  CDs--can hold 700 MB of information
3.  Zip--can hold 100 to 700 MB of information
4.  Tape Driver--can hold up to 50 GB of information
5.  Hard Drive--can hold up to 200 GB of information
6.  FTP location--up to 1 GB of information

Automated Backups
One of the best way to backup your data is to us a program that will do it automatically.
We recommend Handy Backup.  You can download a free trial by clicking here.
