1.  Download the following file to your desktop http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/FixBlast.exe

2.  Turn off system restore (WinXP only)

3.  Open the file on your desktop entitled fixblast.exe.  This should take about 10 minutes.

4.  When step 3 is completed restart your computer into safe mode
-restart your computer
-tap the F8 key before you reach the Windows XP screen
-select "Safe Mode" from the list of options

5.  Run the removal tool again in safe mode

6.  Restart your computer in normal mode

7.  Turn on the Windows XP firewall (start/control panel/network connections.  right click on Quik Internet and click advanced.  Check the box that says "protect my computer..."

8.  Sign on to the Internet and visit the page www.windowsupdate.com

9.  Click the "Scan for updates" link 

10.  Click on the review and install updates

11. Select update 823980 from the list and install it.  You can also visit this site to download just the patch.  

12.  You can now re-enable the system restore feature
